    Health Education Training (H.E.A.T.) Program

    HeatThe East Central Alabama Area Health Education Center is ready to take on the H.E.A.T this summer. ECAAHEC has partnered with Gadsden State Community College Health Science Department in hosting the first Health Education and Training (H.E.A.T) Summer Program. H.E.A.T is a week long program the week of June 13-17, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The summer program is for upcoming sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in a career in healthcare. In addition to partnering with GSCC, these students will also get to experience Quality of Life Health Services in Gadsden, Citizens Baptist Hospital in Talladega and The University of Alabama at Birmingham. H.E.A.T will give these students an in-depth look into a wide range of career opportunities including nursing, dentistry, clinical lab technician, physical therapy and many more. The students will also receive their CPR certification and a great resume building opportunity.

  • Alabaster Community Give Backers is a community based volunteer organization whose goal is to help anyone in need. Whether it’s a single parent, a senior who is struggling financially, or someone who has suffered a loss due to a natural disaster such as a fire or storm, Alabama Community Give Backers seeks to reach out in a tangible way. We accept: clothing, furniture, kitchen items and new items such as underwear, socks, and diapers for both adults and children. We also collect scrap metal to sell to provide money for our rent and utilities. Volunteers are also needed to help sort items and do other various jobs.   • STAIR (Start The Adventure In Reading) – is a local nonprofit that serves 12 Birmingham City Schools, providing one-on-one tutoring for second graders who need help in reading.
    STAIR is looking for volunteers who can commit to tutor one afternoon a week, after school for 1 ½ hours. Training is provided and no teaching experience is needed.
